Daleno is an electric makeup brush cleaner for anyone who wears makeup often and keeps putting off washing their brushes because they take a whole night to dry. It is a handheld device that spins the brush: in soapy water to wash it and then above the water to shake it dry. Everything happens inside a bowl with a splash-guard ring, so the washbasin and the mirror stay as they were.

An electric brush cleaner that washes by spinning in the bowl

Fill the bowl with lukewarm water, just enough to cover the bristles, and add a drop of mild soap or brush cleanser. With the brush attached to the spinner, lower the bristles into the water and press the button. The spin opens up the hair and drives the soapy water between the bristles, which is where foundation, powder or blusher builds up. When the water turns cloudy, change it and repeat with clean water to rinse.

A brush cleaner and dryer: spinning throws the water off

The part that saves you the most time comes next. Without taking the brush off, lift it above the water line, still inside the bowl, and spin it again. The water flies off towards the sides and the ring holds it in. In a few moments the bristles are nearly dry and back in shape: they just need to air for a while instead of spending the night lying on a towel.

Rubber collars for brushes of different thickness

What joins the brush to the spinner is the collars: flexible rubber pieces with a hole in the middle, each a different diameter. Pick the one that grips the handle firmly, push the brush in and clip the collar onto the spinner. They suit most face and eye brushes. The stand keeps them in size order and in sight, so they do not end up loose in a drawer.

A cordless machine for cleaning makeup brushes

The spinner runs on batteries, so you can use it by the washbasin without looking for a socket or minding a cable. Batteries are not in the box; the type and number are in the specifications table. The body is light, fits in one hand and starts with a single button. When you finish, the whole set fits on a bathroom shelf.

How to clean makeup brushes step by step

  1. Choose the collar

Try the collars until you find the one that holds the handle with no play, and push the brush in.

  2. Clip the brush onto the spinner

Fit the collar onto the spinner's shaft and check that the brush sits straight.

  3. Wash in the bowl

Add lukewarm water and a drop of soap, dip just the bristles and spin the brush for a few seconds, moving it slightly up and down.

  4. Rinse with clean water

Change the water and repeat until it stays clear.

  5. Spin to dry

Lift the brush above the water without taking it out of the bowl and spin it until no more drops come off.

Care and maintenance

  • Empty and rinse the bowl and the ring after each session and let them air-dry.
  • Rinse the collars with water and dry them before putting them back on the stand.
  • Wipe the spinner with a barely damp cloth: do not wet it or hold it under the tap.
  • If you will not use it for several weeks, take the batteries out.

Frequently asked questions

Does this electric brush cleaner work with all my brushes?

It works with most face and eye brushes, because it comes with collars in several sizes and you choose the one that grips the handle well. Very thick, very thin or flat-shaped handles may not fit any of them; you will have to wash those brushes by hand. Makeup sponges cannot be attached.

How can I dry makeup brushes quickly?

After washing and rinsing, lift the brush above the water without taking it out of the bowl and spin it: the spinning throws off nearly all the water in a few moments. The bristles come out nearly dry, not completely dry, so let them air for a while lying flat or head down before storing them or using them with powder.

Which soap should I use to clean the brushes?

A mild soap, a neutral shampoo or a dedicated brush cleanser, always in a small amount: a drop per bowl is usually enough. With natural-hair brushes choose a delicate cleanser and keep the spin short. Avoid alcohol, solvents and very hot water, which can loosen the bristles or damage the handle.

How often should I wash my makeup brushes?

It depends on how much you use them and with which products. Foundation and concealer brushes work with creamy textures, load up sooner and benefit from frequent washing; powder brushes last longer. A good sign is when the brush no longer blends as it did or starts mixing colours. With this device, washing several in a row takes little time.

Can the spinner get wet?

No. The handheld spinner holds the motor and the batteries and is not made to get wet: do not submerge it or hold it under the tap. When washing, put just the brush's bristles in the water. If drops land on it, dry it straight away with a cloth. The bowl, the ring and the collars can be rinsed with water.

Does it splash when you spin the brushes dry?

That is what the splash-guard ring is for: it narrows the mouth of the bowl and holds back the water that flies off. For it to work, keep the brush inside the bowl while it spins, below the ring, and do not overfill it. If you lift the brush above the rim with the motor running, it will splash.
