Read the full description

Lumireo is an expandable garden hose: empty, it is short and light; when you turn on the tap it fills with water, lengthens and follows you around the garden or the terrace; when you turn the tap off and drain it, it shrinks back again. It comes with tap connectors and a spray gun with several spray patterns. It is for anyone who waters pots, a small vegetable patch or the lawn, washes the car or hoses down the patio, and is tired of dragging and coiling a stiff hose that is heavy and kinks.

How an expandable hose works

Inside there is an elastic tube, and outside a fabric cover that protects it and limits how far it stretches. Water pressure swells the tube and the hose grows; when you turn off the tap and squeeze the gun to let out the remaining water, the cover gathers up and the hose returns to its size. That is why the length it reaches depends on the pressure at your tap: with low pressure it stays shorter.

An expandable hose with a multi-pattern spray gun

The gun changes pattern when you turn the head: a gentle shower for pots and newly sown plants, a fan for the lawn, a concentrated jet for the mud on tools or the wheels of the car. Let go of the trigger and the water stops, with no need to walk back to the tap.

A flexible watering hose that stores in very little space

It weighs far less than a stiff hose of the same reach, so anyone in the household can move it without effort. Once empty, you gather it up by hand and keep it on a shelf, in a bucket or hanging from a hook. It is a good choice for terraces, patios and small gardens where there is no room for a hose cart.

Connectors for the garden or terrace tap

It screws onto threaded taps, the usual kind in gardens, terraces and garages; the compatible sizes are in the specifications table. If your tap is smooth, like a kitchen sink tap, you will need an adapter for unthreaded taps, which is not included.

How to use your expanding hose step by step

  1. Screw the connector onto the tap

Check that the rubber washer is in place and tighten by hand, without tools.

  2. Attach the spray gun

Fit it to the other end and leave it closed.

  3. Turn the tap on gradually

Let the hose fill and stretch by itself before you pull on it.

  4. Water

Choose the pattern on the head and move around without tugging the hose or dragging it over sharp edges.

  5. Drain it when you finish

Turn off the tap, squeeze the trigger until no more water comes out and put the hose away once it has shrunk.

Care and maintenance to make it last

An expandable hose lasts longer the better it is treated. Always drain it after use and do not leave it under pressure while you are not watering. Store it in the shade: constant sun dries out the inner tube and the cover. In winter, put it away empty somewhere free of frost. Avoid dragging it over sharp gravel, rose bushes or corners, and if a connector drips, check the rubber washer before tightening any further.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the expandable hose when full of water?

The empty length and the length when full of water are listed in the specifications table. The maximum is reached with good pressure at the tap; with low pressure it stays somewhat shorter. If in doubt, measure the distance from the tap to the farthest point you want to water and allow a margin.

What water pressure does it need to stretch?

It needs the pressure of a normal household supply. With gravity-fed tanks, rain barrels without a pump or taps with very little flow it hardly stretches, because pressure is what lengthens it. The pressure range recommended by the manufacturer is listed in the specifications table.

Does it fit any tap?

It connects to taps with an external thread, the usual kind in gardens, terraces and garages; the compatible thread sizes are in the specifications table. For a smooth kitchen or bathroom tap you need a specific adapter for unthreaded taps, which is sold separately.

Do expandable hoses break easily?

They are more delicate than a stiff hose, because the inner tube is elastic. The usual failures come from leaving them under pressure in the sun, dragging them over sharp edges or storing them full. If you drain it after each use, keep it in the shade and avoid tugging, it copes well with normal household watering.

Is a retractable garden hose the same as an expandable one?

Shops sometimes use the two words as synonyms, along with expanding or stretch hose. Strictly speaking, a retractable hose is one that winds back onto a spring-loaded reel fixed to the wall. Lumireo is expandable: it has no reel, it lengthens with water and shrinks when it empties.

Can I use it to wash the car?

Yes. The fan pattern wets and rinses the bodywork, and the concentrated jet helps with the mud on the underside and the wheels. It is not a pressure washer, so stuck-on dirt still needs a sponge and shampoo. Do not use it as the supply hose of a pressure washer either.
