Read the full description

Noleno is a universal socket for drills: a steel socket with internal jaws that you open or close by turning its outer collar, until they grip the nut or the hex head of the bolt. It fits a drill or a driver with the adapter included, and it can also be turned with a spanner or a ratchet. It is made for anyone who assembles furniture, fixes their bike or does DIY at home and does not want to keep trying sockets one by one.

A universal socket wrench: one adjustable socket for nuts of several sizes

The body is knurled steel and carries an outer collar that turns. Turn it one way and the jaws inside open; turn it the other way and they close onto the flat faces of the nut until they hold it with no play. That way one socket covers hex nuts and bolts of several sizes, metric or imperial; the exact range is given in the specifications table. It grips hex heads and nothing else: it does not work on eye bolts, hooks, wing nuts or rounded heads.

A socket adapter for drills and drivers

The adapter has a hex shank that goes into the drill chuck or a driver, and its other end couples to the back of the socket. With it you can tighten and loosen long-travel nuts, such as those on threaded rod, much faster than by hand. Compatibility with your drill and the maximum torque allowed are in the specifications table.

A universal nut wrench: the final tightening, by hand

The back of the socket can also be turned with a spanner or a ratchet, without the drill. That is the most practical way to give the last turn with control, to loosen a stubborn nut or to work in a corner where the drill does not fit. The knurling on the body helps you hold it with your fingers while you offer it up to the nut.

How to use it

  1. Fit the adapter

Clamp the hex shank firmly in the drill chuck and couple the socket to the other end.

  2. Set up the drill

Switch off the hammer function, choose a low speed and set the clutch to a moderate torque.

  3. Adjust the jaws

Place the socket square on the nut and turn the outer collar until the jaws hold it by its faces, with no play.

  4. Turn gently

Squeeze the trigger gradually; if you notice any play, stop and readjust the collar. Finish the tightening by hand with a spanner or a ratchet if needed.

Care and maintenance

After use, open the jaws fully, tap the socket upside down and blow out the dust and shavings. Every so often add a drop of light oil to the mechanism and turn the collar from one end to the other to spread it. Store it dry, together with the adapter, to prevent rust.

Frequently asked questions

What nut sizes does the universal socket wrench take?

The size range is given in the specifications table. Within that range, the jaws adjust to hex nuts and hex bolt heads, metric or imperial, when you turn the outer collar. For smaller or larger nuts you will need a conventional socket of the exact size.

Does the universal socket work with any drill?

The adapter has a hex shank that fits the chuck of most drills and drivers with a hex bit holder. Check the shank size and the maximum recommended torque in the specifications table and compare them with your tool. Always use screwdriving mode, never the hammer setting.

Can I use the adjustable nut socket with an impact wrench?

It is not recommended. The adjustable jaw mechanism is designed for moderate tightening and loosening with a drill, a driver, a spanner or a ratchet. The blows of an impact wrench and high torque can damage the jaws or the adjusting collar. The maximum recommended torque is given in the specifications table.

Does the universal nut wrench work on eye bolts, hooks or wing nuts?

No. The jaws close onto the flat faces of a hex nut or a hex bolt head, and that is where they grip. An eye bolt, a hook, a wing nut or a rounded or badly worn head does not offer those faces, and the socket slips. For those parts, use the tool made for them.

Can it be used to tighten car wheel nuts?

No. Wheel nuts have a specific tightening torque set by the car manufacturer and must be tightened with a torque wrench. This socket is meant for DIY, furniture, bikes and household assembly jobs, not for safety-critical joints on a vehicle.

What protection do I need when using the socket adapter in a drill?

Wear safety glasses, as shavings or flakes of rust can fly off. If you wear gloves, make them close-fitting and never loose near rotating parts; tuck in sleeves and tie back long hair too. Work at low speed, hold the drill firmly and read the tool's manual before you start.
