Lumiria is a handheld cordless electric mini chopper for the small jobs of every day: chopping a couple of garlic cloves, half an onion, a handful of parsley or a few nuts. It is a pale green motor body with a pistol-style handle, and a clear bowl with blades attaches underneath. It has a battery that recharges by USB, so it does not take up a socket or leave a cable across the worktop. It is made for anyone who cooks often in small portions and does not want to get the food processor out for a sofrito.

USB rechargeable chopper: no cable and no hunting for a socket

The motor sits in the body the handle comes out of and runs on its own battery. When it runs down, you charge it with the USB cable, just like a phone, from a wall charger or a computer. Because it does not depend on a socket, you can use it next to the hob, at the table or in a small kitchen where the sockets are always taken.

Electric garlic chopper with a single button

Attach the bowl under the motor body, take the chopper by the handle and hold the button down: the blades spin while you press it and stop when you let go. You can chop with it in the air or with the bowl resting on the worktop. Short presses give you chunks; hold it a few seconds longer for a fine chop. Because the bowl is clear, you can see the result without opening it, so you do not overdo it.

Electric mini chopper for onion, herbs and nuts

Its size is designed for small amounts: garlic, onion, shallot, chilli, parsley, coriander, ginger or nuts. For larger amounts, chop in several batches. The blades work inside the closed bowl, so while it chops your hand is on the handle and not near the edge. As an extra, the box includes a slicing attachment with a feed tube and pusher, for long vegetables such as cucumber.

How to use it

  1. Charge the battery

Before using it for the initial time, charge the motor body with the USB cable until the indicator shows it is full.

  2. Prepare and fill the bowl

Fit the blades on their spindle and add the food, peeled and in small pieces, without going past the fill mark.

  3. Attach the bowl to the motor

Without pressing the button, fit the bowl under the motor body until it sits firmly.

  4. Chop in pulses

Take the chopper by the handle, hold the button down for a few seconds, release and check; repeat until you reach the texture you want.

  5. Detach the bowl before emptying

Release the bowl from the motor body, lift the blades out by their spindle and empty the bowl with a spoon.

Cleaning and maintenance

Always take the bowl off the motor body before washing. The bowl and blades are washed in warm soapy water, using a brush between the blades. The motor body, handle included, must not get wet: wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it well. Make sure everything is dry before charging or reassembling it, and store it charged if you will not use it for a while.

Frequently asked questions

How do you charge a cordless electric chopper?

With the USB cable supplied, plugged into a wall charger or a computer. The connector and the approximate charging time are listed in the specifications table. A light indicator shows while it charges. Make sure the motor is dry and off the bowl before you plug it in.

Does it work as an electric garlic chopper?

Yes, it is one of its main uses. Peel the cloves, put them in the bowl and press the button for a few seconds. With very small amounts some of the garlic may stick to the sides: for a more even chop, add several cloves at once or chop them with the onion.

How many times can it be used on one charge?

It depends on what you chop and how long you hold the button: herbs and garlic use less battery than hard vegetables or nuts. The specifications table gives a guide figure for short uses per charge. If you notice it spinning more slowly, it is time to charge it.

What is the difference between an electric mini chopper and a manual one?

In the electric one the motor spins the blades while you hold a button, so you do not need to use any force and chopping is quick. In return, it needs charging and the motor must not get wet. A manual one needs no battery but takes several presses or pulls.

Can I chop meat or ice with the rechargeable chopper?

Do not add ice, bones or frozen food, because they strain the motor and can damage the blades. Small amounts of cooked meat in small pieces can be chopped; large pieces of raw meat are not for a chopper this size. Do not use it with hot liquids either.

How do you clean it without damaging the motor?

Start by taking the bowl off the motor body. Wash the bowl and blades in warm soapy water, using a brush between the blades so your fingers stay off the edge. The motor body, with its handle, must not get wet or go under water: wipe it with a barely damp cloth and dry it. Wait until everything is dry before charging.
