Nomiria is a handheld electric vegetable cutter: a pale green motor body with a pistol-style handle and a button that sits under your index finger. It works without a cable, on a built-in battery that recharges by USB. It has two attachments: one for slicing, with a vertical feed tube and a pusher, and a small clear bowl with blades for chopping. It is made for anyone who cooks every day in small amounts and wants to add freshly cut vegetables to the pan or the salad without getting the board out.
Cordless electric vegetable cutter: slices straight into the pan
With the slicing attachment fitted, you hold the cutter above the pan, the plate or a bowl, drop the vegetable into the tube and press it down with the pusher while you squeeze the button. The slices come out underneath and land right where you need them. It does well with carrot, cucumber, celery, courgette, chilli or spring onion, in other words long vegetables that fit down the tube.
Hold it a little way above a hot pan and do not rest it on the rim.
Electric vegetable slicer with feed tube and pusher
The tube guides the vegetable towards the blade and the pusher does the last stretch for you, so your fingers stay up top, away from the edge, while you cut. If a piece is wider than the tube, split it lengthways beforehand; if it is very hard, like a thick carrot, cut it into thinner sticks so the motor is not strained. Do not push with your fingers or with another utensil.
Garlic and ginger chopper: the second function
Swap the slicing attachment for the clear bowl with blades and the same motor chops garlic, ginger, chilli, fresh herbs or nuts. Squeeze the button in short bursts and watch through the bowl: a few bursts give you pieces and a few more give a fine chop. It is a small bowl, enough for the base of a sofrito or a dressing, not for chopping the whole week's vegetables.
USB rechargeable vegetable cutter
The battery sits inside the motor body and recharges with the USB cable in the box, from a wall charger or a computer. The guide figures for capacity, runtime and charging time are in the specifications table. Always plug it in dry and with no attachment fitted.
How to use it
Charge the battery
Before you start using it, connect it to the USB cable until the indicator shows a full charge.
Fit the attachment with the motor stopped
Push the slicing attachment or the chopping bowl onto the motor body, without touching the button, until it sits firmly.
Slice over the pan or bowl
Hold the cutter above the pan, feed the vegetable into the tube, squeeze the button and press it down with the pusher.
Chop in the bowl in short bursts
For garlic or herbs, put a small amount in the bowl, squeeze the button in short bursts and check the texture from outside.
Take it apart before emptying
Release the button, wait for the blade to stop and take the attachment off before emptying it.
Cleaning and maintenance
Always take the attachment off the motor body before cleaning. The tube, the pusher, the bowl and the blades are washed in lukewarm soapy water; the cleaning brush is for the inside of the tube and for getting between the blades without bringing your fingers near. The motor body does not go under the tap or into water: a slightly damp cloth is enough, then dry it. If you are unsure about the dishwasher, look at the washing row in the specifications table.
Frequently asked questions
Which vegetables does a handheld electric vegetable cutter slice?
The ones that fit down the tube: carrot, cucumber, celery, courgette, chilli or spring onion. Wider pieces are split lengthways beforehand and very hard ones are cut into thin sticks. It is not meant for whole potatoes, pumpkin or cabbage: for those large vegetables a knife or a mandoline is still more practical.
Can I slice vegetables straight over a hot pan?
Yes, that is its main use. Hold the cutter a little way up so steam and splashes do not reach the motor body, do not rest it on the rim and turn the heat down while you slice. If you are adding a fair amount of vegetables, it is more comfortable to slice onto a plate and tip them in afterwards.
Does it also work as a garlic and ginger chopper?
Yes. Swap the slicing attachment for the clear bowl with blades, put in the peeled cloves or the ginger in pieces and squeeze the button in bursts. With a single clove the blades throw it against the bowl and the result is uneven; with several at once the chop comes out more regular.
How do you charge a rechargeable vegetable cutter?
You connect the motor body to the USB cable in the box and the cable to a wall charger or a computer; the charger is not included. The connector type, the battery capacity and the guide charging time are in the specifications table. Charge it dry and with no attachments on.
Can I use it with meat, ice or nuts?
Shelled nuts can be chopped in the bowl, in small amounts and in bursts. Meat with sinew, ice and bones are ruled out: they jam the blades and strain a small motor like this one. Do not put frozen food or anything hot in the bowl either.
How do you clean the electric vegetable slicer?
With the motor stopped, take off the attachment and wash it in lukewarm soapy water; the brush supplied reaches inside the tube and the blades without your fingers getting close. The motor body is wiped with a slightly damp cloth, never held under the tap. Dry everything before putting it away.
