Tamela is a flat mop with its own bucket: a slim bucket with two slots, one for washing the pad and one for wringing it, and a handle with a flat head that holds microfibre pads. It replaces the usual string mop and round bucket for everyday floor cleaning at home. It is practical for flats with little storage space and for anyone who would rather not touch dirty water.

Self-wringing flat mop: wash and wring without getting your hands wet

The bucket does the wringing. You put the mop upright into the dry slot and, as you push it down and pull it up, a scraper squeezes the pad and draws the water out. Nothing to twist, and no bending down to the floor.

The more passes you make, the drier the pad. That lets you choose the level of dampness: a couple of passes for tiles or stoneware, and a few more for floors that need very little water.

A slim mop bucket with a wash slot and a dry slot

The wash slot opens onto the water: as the mop moves up and down inside it, the pad lets go of the dirt it has picked up. The dry slot is just for wringing, so washing and wringing are two separate, quick movements.

Being long and narrow, the bucket takes up little depth and stands beside the washing machine, behind a door or in the cleaning cupboard.

Washable, reusable microfibre mop

The pads are made of microfibre, a fabric that traps dust, fluff and hair and absorbs water well. They attach to the head with hook-and-loop fastening: they go on and come off in a moment, with no clips or screws.

When a pad is dirty, you peel it off, put it in the washing machine and fit another. There is no need to buy disposable refills for every clean.

A flat swivel head that reaches under furniture

The head is flat and hinged to the handle, so the mop lies almost level with the floor and slides under the bed, the sofa or furniture with legs. It also swivels to go around chair legs and follow skirting boards and corners.

How to use the flat mop with bucket, step by step

  1. Assemble the handle and fit the pad

Screw the handle sections together, attach it to the head and press a well-centred microfibre pad onto the hook-and-loop strip.

  2. Fill the wash slot

Pour water and a little of your usual floor cleaner into the wash side, without filling it to the top.

  3. Wet and wring

Set the head upright, put it into the wash slot and move it up and down a few times. Then do the same in the dry slot until it is as damp as you like.

  4. Mop

Work in sections, from the far end of the room towards the door. When the pad gets dirty, wash and wring it in the bucket again.

  5. Empty and put away

When you finish, empty the bucket, rinse it and let the pad dry before storing everything.

Care and maintenance

Wash the pads by hand or in the washing machine with ordinary detergent, without fabric softener or bleach, which clog and damage microfibre, and let them air dry. Rinse the bucket after each use and do not leave water in it overnight. Wipe the handle with a cloth if it has got wet and store the mop with the pad already dry, so it does not pick up a musty smell.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a flat mop with bucket and a traditional mop?

A traditional mop has strings and is wrung by twisting it in a round wringer. A flat mop uses a microfibre pad attached to a rectangular head and is wrung by passing it through a slot in the bucket. It covers more surface with each stroke, slides under furniture and leaves less water on the floor.

Is this mop suitable for parquet and laminate flooring?

Yes, as long as you wring it well. Pass it through the dry slot several times until the pad is damp rather than wet, and do not leave puddles on the wood. If your floor comes with cleaning instructions from the manufacturer, follow them, especially for oiled or unsealed parquet.

Can the microfibre pads go in the washing machine?

Yes. Peel the pad off the head, shake it to remove hair and fluff and wash it with ordinary detergent. Avoid fabric softener and bleach, because they make microfibre less absorbent, and do not tumble dry it unless the label allows it. Let it air dry before fitting it again.

How much water should go in the bucket?

Just enough for the pad to be covered when you put the head into the wash slot. There is no need to fill it to the top: with little water the bucket weighs less and is easier to carry from room to room. Add the dose of floor cleaner shown on the product's packaging.

Can the flat mop be used dry for dusting?

Yes. With a clean, dry pad, the microfibre picks up dust, fluff and hair before you mop, and it is also handy for wiping tiled walls or skirting boards. The most practical approach is to keep one pad for dry use and another for mopping, and wash both when needed.

Which flat mop refills fit this head?

The pads attach with hook-and-loop fastening, so microfibre refills with the same fastening and the same measurements as the head will fit. You will find those measurements in the specifications on this page. Before buying a refill from another brand, compare the length and width so that it neither overhangs nor falls short.
