Tavinis is a front windscreen sunshade that works like an umbrella: you open it inside the car, rest it against the glass and lower the sun visors to hold it. There is no rigid panel to roll up and no cardboard concertina to wrestle with. It is for anyone who often parks in the sun, on the street or in the car park at work, and wants to find the steering wheel and dashboard in the shade when they get back.

An umbrella sunshade for the car: open in a moment

Take the sunshade out of its pouch, put it in front of the steering wheel with the fabric towards the glass and push the mechanism as you would with an umbrella. The fabric spreads out and covers the windscreen from side to side. The handle rests on the dashboard, so it does not fall even if you slam the door.

Shade for the steering wheel and dashboard

In direct sun, the steering wheel, the gear stick and the dashboard get very hot. The sunshade puts a screen between the glass and the interior: the reflective outer side bounces back some of the light, and the inner side is dark so it does not dazzle. That way you can hold the wheel when you return and the cabin feels less hot when you open the door.

A folding windscreen sunshade that fits in the door pocket

Closed, it is the size of a small umbrella. You slip it into its fabric pouch and keep it in the door pocket, under the seat or in the glovebox. It does not take over the back seats or the boot, and it is at hand every time you park.

Before you buy: measure your windscreen

This front car sunshade is designed for most cars and small people carriers. Even so, every windscreen is different: compare the measurements in the specifications table with the width and height of your glass, measured from the inside. In vans, large off-roaders or very steeply raked windscreens it may fall short.

How to fit the sunshade to the windscreen

  1. Take it out of the pouch

With the car stationary and the engine off, take the closed sunshade out of its pouch.

  2. Place it in front of the glass

Pass it over the steering wheel with the reflective side facing out and the tip towards the windscreen.

  3. Open it

Push the mechanism until the fabric is spread out and resting against the glass, without forcing it.

  4. Hold it with the visors

Lower both sun visors so the fabric stays put and leave the handle resting on the dashboard.

  5. Remove it before you drive

Close it, put it back in its pouch and check that the windscreen is clear before driving.

Caring for the sunshade

To clean it, wipe both sides with a damp cloth and leave it open until it is dry before you put it away. Open and close it calmly, without pulling on the fabric or the ribs, and do not use it as an umbrella in rain or wind, because the mechanism could bend.

Frequently asked questions

Will this front car sunshade fit my car?

It is designed for most cars and small people carriers, but measuring is the most reliable check. With a tape measure, take the width and height of the windscreen from the inside and compare them with the measurements in the specifications table. In vans, large off-roaders or very raked windscreens it may fall short.

How many degrees does it lower the temperature inside the car?

We do not give a figure, because it depends on the sun, the colour of the car, which way it faces and how long it is parked. What it does is shade the dashboard and steering wheel, so they are not as hot to the touch, and it helps the cabin feel less stuffy when you get in.

How does an umbrella car sunshade stay up without suction cups?

The open fabric rests against the windscreen and the handle sits on the dashboard. To keep it still, you just lower both sun visors onto the fabric. It needs no suction cups or stickers, so it leaves no marks on the glass.

Can I leave it in place while I drive?

No. The sunshade is for a parked car and it blocks the view through the windscreen. Always remove it before you start the engine, put it in its pouch and store it where it is not loose in front of the airbags or under the pedals.

What is the advantage over a classic folding windscreen sunshade?

Concertina shades or the ones that twist into circles take up space and can be awkward to fold again. This one opens and closes with the same movement as an umbrella and, closed, it fits in the door pocket. In return, treat the ribs with care and do not force them when you open it.

How do I clean and store it?

Wipe both sides with a damp cloth, without abrasive products, and leave it open until it is dry. Then close it and put it in its pouch. Do not use it as an umbrella outdoors in rain or wind, because the mechanism is not made for that and could bend.
