Read the full description
Fimiro is a hand-operated vegetable dicer: a container with a grid of blades on top and a lid with prongs that pushes the food through it. You put half an onion on the grid, press the lid down with your palm and get even dice inside the container. It is for anyone who cooks every day, makes base sauces, salads or stews and wants to chop quickly without crying over onions or covering the worktop in scraps.
Interchangeable grids for dice and sticks
Each grid gives a different size of cut: a fine one for small dice of onion, spring garlic or pepper, a wider one for diced potato or courgette for stews, and another for sticks. The grids clip into the frame and change in a moment. The exact sizes of each one are in the specifications table.
An onion chopper with no tears over the board
The onion is chopped with the lid down, so it spends less time in the open air and less of it reaches your eyes than when you cut it with a knife. Just peel it, halve it and lay it flat side down. For a base sauce with two or three onions, you repeat the movement a few times and it is all chopped and collected.
A manual chopper with a container: everything stays inside
The dice drop into the clear container underneath, so you can see how much you have chopped and nothing rolls across the worktop. When it is full, lift off the frame and tip the contents into the pan or a food box. With the sealing lid you can keep anything you will not use that day in the fridge.
How to use it
Fit the grid
Clip the grid of the size you want into the frame and place the frame on the container.
Prepare the vegetable
Peel it and cut it into pieces a little smaller than the grid, with a flat side to rest it on.
Press the lid down
Put the piece on the grid and press the lid with your palm, firmly and in one movement, all the way down.
Empty and repeat
Lift the lid, add the next piece and, when the container is full, tip out the contents.
Cleaning and maintenance
Rinse it straight after use, before the scraps dry in the grid. Run the cleaning comb through the grid from below to push out anything caught in it and finish with a brush under the tap. Take all the parts apart and let them dry before putting it back together. Check the specifications to see which parts are dishwasher safe.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a vegetable dicer and a mandoline?
The chopper pushes the food down through a grid and leaves it as dice or sticks inside a container, in one movement. A mandoline cuts thin slices as you slide food across a blade. For base sauces, chopped salads or stews the chopper is the better tool; for potato or cucumber slices, the mandoline.
Does it work as an onion chopper for a base sauce?
Yes, it is one of its most common uses. Peel the onion, cut it in half and lay it flat side down on the small-dice grid. When you press the lid down you get even dice that soften at the same pace. If the onion is large, cut it into quarters so it fits on the grid.
Can it cut potatoes into chip sticks?
With the sticks grid you can cut potato for frying or for the oven. Raw potato is hard, so it is best to cut it beforehand into pieces the height of the grid and press the lid down firmly in one movement, without hitting it. The grid sizes are listed in the specifications table.
How do you clean the chopper grid?
Straight after use, run the cleaning comb through the grid from below to push out the scraps, then rinse it with a brush under the tap. Never use your fingers or a sponge directly on the blades. Which parts are dishwasher safe is shown in the specifications table.
Which foods are best kept out of the chopper?
Very hard foods in large pieces, such as raw squash or sweet potato, because they force you to push the lid too hard; cut them into small pieces first. It does not work well with very soft foods either, such as a very ripe tomato, which squash, or with bones, nuts in their shells or frozen food.
