Read the full description
Mariso is an ergonomic memory foam pillow for your bed: a block of memory foam moulded with two heights and a rim along the front, inside a cover that comes off for washing. It is designed for people who sleep on their back or side and want a pillow that keeps its shape, firmer than a fibre one and with a defined contour instead of a flat rectangle.
A contour pillow with two heights
Look at it from the side and you will see it is not flat: it has a higher side and a lower side, with a slightly deeper area in the centre where your head rests. You can turn it round and keep the side you find more comfortable, depending on your build and how firm your mattress is. The measurements of each height are in the specifications table.
The front rim is the rounded edge that sits next to your shoulder. It fills the gap between the pillow and the mattress, so the pillow does not leave an empty space under your neck.
Memory foam that moulds and recovers its shape
Memory foam gives gradually under the weight and warmth of your head, and returns to its shape just as slowly when you get up. It feels like a pillow that adapts, without bouncing like a spring and without flattening completely like a feather one. In a cold room it will feel firmer at the start; with body heat it softens within a few minutes.
When you take it out of the packaging it may have a faint new smell, which is normal with foam. Let it air for a few hours in a ventilated place before using it.
A pillow for side or back sleepers
Side sleepers often prefer the high side, because it covers the distance between shoulder and head. On their back, many people keep to the low side. If you sleep on your front, a contour pillow like this one is usually too high; a thin, flat pillow suits that position better. What matters is your own comfort, so try both sides for a few nights before deciding.
What pillow height do I need, and how to start using it
Let it air
Take it out of the packaging and leave it for a few hours in a ventilated room so it loses the new smell and recovers its shape.
Place the rim towards you
Put it on the bed with the rounded edge facing your shoulders, not the headboard.
Try the high and low sides
Lie down in your usual position and turn the pillow round until you find the side that feels more comfortable.
Give it a few nights
If you are used to a soft fibre pillow, it will feel different at first. Give it a few nights before deciding.
Washing and caring for the cover and the foam
- The cover has a zip: take it off and wash it following the instructions on the label.
- Do not put the foam in the washing machine or the tumble dryer; if it gets marked, wipe it with a barely damp cloth and let it dry in the air.
- Air the pillow from time to time and keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.
- Always use it with its cover on, and with a pillowcase over it if you like.
Frequently asked questions
What pillow height do I need?
It depends on how you sleep, your build and how firm your mattress is. Side sleepers with broad shoulders usually feel better with more height; back sleepers with less. That is why this pillow has two sides: try both for a few nights and keep the one you find more comfortable.
Is it the same as a cervical memory foam pillow?
Many shops call contour pillows like this one cervical pillows: a high side, a low side and a rim. It is simply the name for the type of pillow. Mariso is a comfort item for sleeping, not a medical device, and it makes no promise of any effect on the neck or back.
Does a contour pillow work for sleeping on your front?
Generally it is not the most comfortable choice. On your front, your head is turned and almost level with the mattress, so a contour pillow tends to feel high. A thin, soft pillow suits that position better. If you change position during the night, try the low side.
Can a memory foam pillow be washed?
The cover, yes: it has a zip and goes in the washing machine following the label. The foam, no: water and spinning distort it and it takes a long time to dry. If it gets marked, wipe it with a barely damp cloth and let it dry in the air, out of direct sunlight.
Why does it smell when I take it out of the box?
Newly made and packed memory foam usually has a faint new smell. Take it out of the packaging, remove the cover and let it air for a few hours, or a day, in a ventilated room. The smell fades with fresh air. If it bothers you, wait until it has gone before using it.
