Novelis is a magnetic door screen: a fine mesh curtain split into two panels that meet in the middle thanks to a row of magnets. It fits on the frame of a terrace, balcony or patio door and lets you leave the door open for fresh air while the mesh helps keep mosquitoes, flies and moths out. It comes in a pack of two, for two doors.
A magnetic screen curtain that closes on its own
To get through, you push the mesh at the centre with your hand, your shoulder or whatever you are carrying. The two panels part and, as soon as you are through, the magnets sewn along the join bring them back together. There is nothing to remember to close.
That makes it convenient when you go in and out with shopping, washing to hang out or a tray. Dogs and cats soon learn to walk through by pushing with their heads.
A door screen with no drilling
The curtain attaches to the frame with an adhesive hook-and-loop strip: one part sticks to the frame and the other is sewn along the edge of the mesh. To make it more secure, especially on wooden frames, you add a few pins. There are no holes to drill in the wall and no profiles to fit, so it is a good option for rented flats.
Because it uses hook-and-loop, the mesh comes off the frame in a moment when you want to wash it or put it away, and goes back on just as easily.
A magnetic screen for terrace and balcony doors: air in, insects out
The mesh is a physical barrier: it contains no product and does not drive insects away, it simply blocks their path. Its fine weave lets air and light through, so you can air the house on summer nights with the door open.
At the bottom there is a small weight that keeps the mesh taut and helps both panels hang straight and fall back into place.
How to fit the screen, step by step
Measure the frame
Measure the width and height of the opening across the outside of the frame and check that the curtain covers it with some margin.
Clean and dry the frame
Remove dust and grease with soapy water or rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely.
Stick on the adhesive strip
Stick the strip along the top and sides of the frame, pressing firmly, and wait a few hours before hanging the mesh.
Attach the mesh
Press the edge of the curtain onto the hook-and-loop strip starting from the top centre, and add pins if the frame is wooden.
Check the closure
Walk through a couple of times and check that the magnets meet at the same height and that the mesh reaches the floor.
Care and maintenance
To remove dust, wipe the hanging mesh with a damp cloth or a soft brush. If it needs a thorough wash, take it off the hook-and-loop strip, remove the magnets if they come out and hand wash it in lukewarm water with mild soap. Let it dry in the shade before putting it back. At the end of summer, store it folded and dry.
Frequently asked questions
How do you fit a magnetic door screen without drilling?
You stick an adhesive hook-and-loop strip along the top and sides of the clean, dry frame and press the edge of the curtain onto it. On wooden frames you can reinforce it with the pins included. The whole job takes a few minutes and needs no power tools.
What size of screen do I need for my door?
Measure the width and height of the opening across the outer part of the frame, where you will stick the strip. The curtain should cover that size with some margin at the sides and reach the floor. Compare your measurements with those in the specifications before buying.
Does the screen drive mosquitoes away?
No. It is a mesh, a physical barrier with no product in it: it does not drive insects away, it simply blocks their way through the door while you let the air in. For it to work well, the curtain must cover the whole opening and the magnets must meet properly.
Does it work as a magnetic screen for a balcony with a sliding door?
Yes, as long as there is a smooth frame around the opening you walk through where you can stick the strip. It goes on the side of the frame that does not get in the way when the door slides. Check beforehand that the curtain does not catch on the track or the handle.
Can the dog or cat get through?
Yes. When they push the mesh at the centre with their head, the panels part and the magnets close them behind. Most dogs and cats learn it in a few days. If your pet scratches a lot, keep an eye on it at the start, as the mesh is fine and claws can catch.
How many screens are in the pack?
The pack has two complete screens, each with its own adhesive strip and pins, so you can fit one on the terrace door and another on the kitchen or balcony door. If you need just one, keep the other as a spare for when the one in use wears out.
