Sezanis are space-saving hangers: long organisers with several holes in a row and a swivel hook at the top. You hang them on the wardrobe rail and, in each hole, hook one of your usual hangers. The clothes cascade one below the other and, on the rail, take up the room of a single hook. They are for small or shared wardrobes, or ones that have run short of rail space.
Cascading hangers: several garments in the space of one
On a normal rail, each hanger takes up its own width and the clothes end up squashed together. With the organiser, the hangers hang vertically and make use of the height that is usually empty below short garments such as shirts, T-shirts or jackets.
You can use the gap they leave on the rail to hang more things or simply so the rest of your clothes are less crammed and come out less creased.
They work with the hangers you already have
There is no need to buy new hangers. The holes in the organiser take the hook of ordinary plastic, slim wooden or velvet hangers. Just pass the hook through the hole and the hanger stays in place.
The top hook swivels, so you can turn the column of clothes towards the wardrobe door or keep it sideways if the space is narrow.
A wardrobe hanger organiser for outfits or types of garment
Each column can have its own job: everyday trousers in one, work shirts in another, sportswear in a third. That way you find what you are looking for without going through every hanger.
They are also handy for storing out-of-season clothes in a corner of the wardrobe, or for planning the week's outfits, with the shirt and trousers together in the same column.
How to use the cascading hangers, step by step
Measure the free height
Check how much space there is below the rail. In low wardrobes, use just the top holes.
Hang the organiser
Hook the swivel hook over the rail, just like another hanger.
Hook on your hangers
Pass the hook of each hanger through a hole, from top to bottom, with the clothes already on.
Spread the weight
Put heavier garments at the top and lighter ones lower down, and do not fill every hole with coats.
Care and maintenance
The organisers need no special care. If they get dusty, wipe them with a damp cloth and dry them before hanging clothes again. When you are not using them, store them flat so they do not bend, and check from time to time that the hook turns freely and has no cracks.
Frequently asked questions
How do cascading hangers work?
The organiser hangs on the rail by its top hook and has several holes in a row. In each hole you hook an ordinary hanger with its garment, so they sit one below the other. On the rail it takes up just the space of the hook, and the clothes use the free height.
How much space do you gain in the wardrobe?
It depends on your wardrobe and your clothes. What changes is that several hangers take up the rail space of one, in exchange for using height. In tall wardrobes with short garments the difference is clear; in low wardrobes or with long clothes it is smaller, because you can use just some of the holes.
Do they work as a multiple trouser hanger?
Yes. Fold each pair of trousers over the bar of an ordinary hanger and hook the hangers into the holes, one below the other. Folded trousers hang short, so several fit well in one column even if the wardrobe is not very tall.
Do they work with any kind of hanger?
With most hangers that have a standard hook: plastic, velvet or slim wood. Very bulky hangers or ones with a very thick hook may not fit the holes. If your hangers are the wide suit kind, try one before you reorganise the whole wardrobe.
Do clothes crease when hung in a cascade?
Garments sit closer together than on the rail, so delicate fabrics may mark a little more. To avoid it, use the cascade for everyday clothes, T-shirts or trousers, leave the odd hole free between garments and keep the rail for clothes you do not want rubbing together.
