Zamelen is a rotating car wash brush that works connected to a garden hose. Water runs up inside the telescopic pole to a round head covered in blue microfibre chenille, and the pressure of the water itself makes that head spin: it has no battery and no motor. It is made for anyone who washes the car, a van or a caravan at home, and for outdoor jobs where the water can run off freely.
A hose-fed car wash brush that spins on water
Inside the head there is a mechanism driven by the water. When you open the flow, the chenille cover starts to turn while water comes out between the fibres, so you wet, rub and carry the dirt away in the same pass. As nothing is electric, there is nothing to charge and no worry about getting it wet.
The trade-off is that it depends on your tap: with low mains pressure the head turns slowly or stops, and then it works as an ordinary brush with running water.
A telescopic pole brush for roofs, vans and caravans
The pole extends in sections and locks at the length you choose. Short, it is handy for doors, wheels and sills; extended, it reaches the middle of the car roof, the top of a van or the side of a caravan without standing on a stool. Bear in mind that with every section out and water running through it, it is heavier at the tip and harder to steer: extend it just as far as you need.
A chenille car brush, with foam and a flow you set yourself
The chenille cover is made of thick, soft strands that hold water and soap and follow the curves of the bodywork. The brush has a small compartment for detergent, so the head works up foam as it turns. On the handle, a valve sets how much water passes: less for soaping without splashing, more for rinsing.
Also for cleaning shutters from outside, glass and garden furniture
Besides the car, it suits windows and shutters from the outside, the garage door, the glass on a terrace or the garden table and chairs. It loosens dust, pollen, fresh mud and rain marks. It does not replace a pressure washer: moss, green film and dried, caked mud call for a different tool. Nor is it for indoor walls or ceilings, because it lets out water all the time.
How to use it
Assemble the brush
Join the pole sections and fit the head with its chenille cover.
Connect the hose
Fit the connector supplied to your hose and push it onto the handle until it clicks.
Add detergent
If you want foam, fill the compartment with car shampoo.
Open the water and wash
Turn on the tap, set the valve and move the head from top to bottom without pressing.
Rinse
When you have finished soaping, rinse with plain water and dry with a cloth to avoid marks.
Care and maintenance
When you finish, let clean water run through the brush for a few seconds to flush out the soap. Take off the chenille cover, rinse it well until no grit comes out and leave it to air-dry. Drain the water from the pole before closing it and store it under cover, away from sun and frost. Check the connector seals now and then: if they drip, they are usually dirty or badly seated.
Frequently asked questions
How does a rotating car wash brush work?
It connects to a garden hose. Water runs up inside the pole to the head and its pressure drives a mechanism that turns the chenille cover, while some of the water comes out between the fibres. It has no batteries, no rechargeable pack and no motor: if you shut off the water, it stops turning.
What water pressure does a hose-fed car wash brush need?
It needs the normal pressure of a home with a good flow; the manufacturer gives the minimum in the manual. If the water comes out weakly at your outdoor tap, or if the hose is very long or kinked, the head will turn slowly or stop. In that case it still works as a brush with running water, but without the spin.
Will a chenille car brush scratch the bodywork?
Microfibre chenille is soft and on its own should not mark bodywork in good condition. What scratches is the grit that gets caught between the fibres. That is why it is worth wetting the car beforehand to wash off the coarse dust, rinsing the cover often and never rubbing dry or pressing hard.
Can it be used to clean shutters and windows from the outside?
Yes, always on the outer face and where the water can drain away to a gully, the garden or the street without bothering anyone. With the pole extended you reach shutters, terrace glass and the garage door from the ground. It is not for indoor walls or ceilings, because the head lets out water all the time.
Does it replace a pressure washer?
No. This brush works at tap pressure and loosens ordinary dirt: dust, pollen, fresh mud or rain marks. For moss, green film, dried mud or very dirty paving you need a pressure washer. On the other hand, it needs no socket and no battery, and it is a gentle way of rubbing down the bodywork.
Is it suitable as a brush for washing caravans and vans?
Yes. The extended pole helps on tall sides and on a good part of the roof, and the head wets and soaps at the same time. Keep in mind that at full length it is heavier at the tip and harder to steer, so work in sections, rest your arms and close one section when you clean the lower part.
