Read the full description
Fivelen is a handle with two suction cups for the shower and the bath. It fits on the tiles without drilling and gives you a handhold within reach for getting in and out, standing up after sitting on a shower stool or keeping your balance while you wash your feet. It is made for rented flats, newly refitted bathrooms or homes where you would rather not make holes, and it comes off without leaving marks. It is a support aid, not a screwed-in bar: below we explain where it grips and how to check it.
Suction grab handle for the bathroom: fitted without drilling
The two suction cups hold by vacuum. As you press each lever down, the rubber flattens against the wall and pushes out the air underneath. There are no wall plugs, screws or silicone, so it goes up in a moment and you can move it whenever you like. If you move house, it goes with you; if you spend a few days in someone else's home, you can put it in that shower and take it down when you leave.
A shower handle you check before every use
A suction cup does not behave like a screw. Over time, changes in temperature, steam and soap residue can make it lose vacuum little by little. That is why Fivelen comes with a simple habit: before you lean on it, give it a firm pull in several directions. If it moves, starts to lift or you notice a lever has come up, fit it again before using it.
Where to put a suction shower handle: smooth tiles, no grout lines
A suction cup needs a smooth, flat, non-porous surface with no cracks: glazed tiles, tempered glass shower screens or smooth acrylic panels. It does not grip well on grout lines, natural stone, rustic or textured tiles, emulsion, wallpaper, plasterboard or curved surfaces. Each cup must sit entirely on a single tile without crossing any grout line; if your tiles are small, compare their size with the dimensions in the specifications table first.
You can fit it vertically next to the entry, for stepping over the edge of the bath, or horizontally at waist height near the taps.
How to fit it
Choose the spot
Find an area of smooth tiling where each suction cup fits entirely on one tile, away from grout lines, cracks and edges.
Clean and dry
Clean the wall and the suction cups with water and a little soap, rinse and dry well. Limescale and soap stop the vacuum forming.
Place it and press the levers
With the levers up, press the centre of each suction cup against the wall and push the levers down one after the other.
Check the grip
Pull firmly in several directions. If it moves, release the levers, clean again and repeat.
Check it every time
Before each use, pull the handle again. To remove it, lift the levers and peel back the edge of the rubber with a finger.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the handle with water now and then and dry it with a cloth. If you use it every day, take it down every week or two, clean the wall and the rubber of the suction cups and fit it again, so limescale does not build up underneath. Do not use bleach, solvents or scourers on the suction cups, as they harden and scratch the rubber. If a suction cup cracks, loses its shape or stops holding, stop using the handle.
Frequently asked questions
Can a suction shower handle be fitted without drilling?
Yes, it holds by vacuum: you clean the wall, place the handle and press the levers down. You need a smooth, flat, non-porous surface such as glazed tiles or glass, with each suction cup entirely on one tile and no grout lines underneath. It does not grip well on emulsion, natural stone or textured tiles.
How much weight does a suction bathroom handle take?
The load it takes is a manufacturer figure listed in the specifications, but in practice it depends on the surface, on cleanliness and on how it was fitted. Use it as a handhold to keep your balance, not to hold your full weight or to get up from the floor.
Does it replace a screwed-in grab bar?
No. A screwed-in bar stays fixed to the wall; a suction cup can lose vacuum over time, with steam or limescale. Fivelen is a practical aid for an extra handhold or for places where you cannot drill. If someone needs to lean on the wall every day, the right choice is a fixed grab bar.
Why does a shower suction cup come loose?
Most often it is sitting over a grout line, on textured tiles or on a surface with soap or limescale residue. Time and hot water also play a part. Clean and dry the wall and the rubber, fit it on a single smooth tile and check the grip with a firm pull before every use.
Can it be used as a bath handle or on the shower screen?
It usually grips on smooth tiles next to the bath or on the smooth tempered glass of a shower screen, as long as the surface is flat. Do not fit it on the rounded rim of the bath or on curved areas, because the cup cannot sit fully. Also check that the screen itself is firmly fixed before leaning on it.
How do you remove the suction handle without leaving marks?
Lift both levers and peel back the edge of each suction cup with a finger to let air in; it then comes away easily. Do not pull on the handle with the levers down. If a ring of limescale is left on the tile, wipe it off with a damp cloth and a little vinegar diluted in water.
