Read the full description
Lurisia is a portable clothes dryer for drying garments indoors. It is a compact white unit, roughly the size of a shoebox, with a heating element, a fan and a hook on top: you hang it from a wardrobe rail, a clothes rail or an over-door hanger. A bar folds down underneath for the hangers and a zipped fabric cover wraps around the clothes. It is made for flats with no washing line, rainy weeks and trips away.
Portable electric dryer: warm air flowing down through the clothes
The unit heats the air and blows it downwards, into the cover. Because the cover is closed, the warm air does not escape straight away: it passes between the garments, picks up the water left in them and leaves the cover gradually. With well-spun laundry, drying is usually quicker than on an airer inside a room.
On the touch panel, which has a small display, you choose the time and the temperature. When the time is up, it switches itself off.
Portable dryer with a cover: clothes hang instead of tumbling
Garments hang on hangers, as in a wardrobe. They do not spin inside a drum, so it is a practical option for shirts, blouses, dresses or fine jumpers you would rather dry hanging. Always check the label: garments that cannot take heat should not go inside.
The cover hangs from the unit and closes around the clothes with a zip. It holds a few garments at a time, so it works better in small batches than with a whole wash load.
Drying clothes at home without a tumble dryer
It is useful in winter, when laundry hung indoors takes days, in small flats with no washing line and for last-minute needs: the school uniform or tomorrow's shirt. It takes up no floor space: it hangs from a rail or a door while it works.
The water that leaves the clothes goes into the air of the room, as with any indoor airer. Use it in a ventilated room, with the door open or the window ajar.
Folding travel clothes dryer
When you finish, the bar folds up, the cover folds down and the unit lies flat: it fits in a drawer, on a wardrobe shelf or in a suitcase. When travelling, check beforehand that the mains voltage of the country matches the appliance.
How to use the portable clothes dryer
Hang it from a sturdy point
Hook the unit onto a wardrobe rail, a clothes rail or an over-door hanger that can take its weight plus that of the wet clothes. Fold down the lower bar and let the cover drop.
Spin the laundry well
Spin the load in the washing machine. The clothes must not drip.
Hang the garments
Use your own hangers and leave space between them so the air can pass. Do not overload the bar.
Close and set
Zip up the cover, plug the appliance straight into the wall socket and choose the time and temperature on the touch panel.
Take the clothes out
When it switches off, unplug it, open the cover and take the garments out. If any are still damp, set a little more time.
Care and maintenance
Unplug the unit and let it cool before taking it down or cleaning it. Wipe the casing and the air intake and outlet grilles with a dry cloth to remove fluff and dust; do not get it wet. If the cover is washable, detach it from the unit and follow the instructions on its label. Store it folded, with the cover completely dry.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a portable dryer take to dry clothes?
It depends on the fabric, the amount and how well spun the laundry is. Thin garments such as T-shirts or shirts dry first; towels, jeans and thick sweatshirts need considerably longer. To shorten the time, spin well in the washing machine, do not overfill the cover and leave space between the hangers.
Where do you hang a portable dryer with a cover?
From any sturdy rail or hanger that can take the weight of the unit plus the wet clothes: a wardrobe rail, a clothes rail or an over-door hanger. Leave the cover hanging free, without touching curtains or bedding, and look for a wall socket nearby. As it takes up no floor space, it suits small flats well.
Which clothes should not go in the portable dryer?
Garments whose label rules out heat drying, wool that shrinks, fabrics with plastic or rubber parts and any item stained with oil, petrol or solvents, even after washing. Do not put in clothes that are still dripping or very heavy items such as a wet coat. If you are unsure about a delicate garment, dry it in the air.
How much electricity does a portable dryer use?
The power of the appliance is listed in the specifications on this page; how much it uses depends on that power and on how long you keep it running. Like any appliance that heats air, it uses electricity while it works. Set the timer to suit the type of clothing instead of always leaving it at the maximum.
Can it be left running overnight or while you are out?
Even though the timer switches it off, it is an appliance that produces heat and it is best kept within sight. Do not leave it running when nobody is at home or while you are asleep. Hang it away from curtains and beds, with the grilles clear and plugged straight into the wall.
Is it noisy while it dries?
Yes, it makes the steady sound of the fan, similar to a small fan heater or a hair dryer on a low setting. You hear it in the same room, but with the door closed it is barely a bother. If noise matters to you, hang it in a room where you are not working or resting.
