Noleneo is a cordless mini chainsaw for the pruning and cutting jobs that come up in a garden, an allotment or a plot of land: thinning out a shrub, taking dead branches off a low fruit tree, trimming a woody hedge or cutting branches into logs for the fireplace. It is for anyone who wants something faster than a pruning saw without hauling a full-size chainsaw around.

A small chainsaw for pruning branches and shrubs

Its short guide bar and low weight make it easy to handle among the branches of a shrub or in a corner of the garden where a large chainsaw will not fit. The branch diameter it can cut is given in the specifications table; thicker branches or trunks need a different tool.

A cordless mini chainsaw: no cable and no petrol

It runs on rechargeable batteries that slot into the handle, so you do not depend on an extension lead or on mixing fuel. While you use one battery you can have another charging. It starts straight away, is far quieter than a petrol saw and leaves no smell of exhaust.

The voltage, the battery capacity and the approximate runtime are in the specifications table. Real runtime depends on how thick and hard the wood is and on how sharp the chain is.

Protective guard and safety lock

A guard covers the top of the chain and throws chips away from your hand. The trigger has a lock that must be released before starting, so the chain does not start by accident when you pick the saw up or put it down.

How to use it

  1. Charge and check

Charge the battery fully and check the chain tension and lubrication before you start.

  2. Protect yourself

Put on work gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy footwear and long sleeves.

  3. Steady the branch

Cut branches between waist and chest height that are well supported or held, with your feet firmly on the ground.

  4. Cut and release

Rest the running chain on the branch, let it cut without forcing it and release the trigger when you finish.

  5. Remove the battery

Always take it out before cleaning, adjusting the chain or putting the chainsaw away.

Care and maintenance

After each use, with the battery out, brush the sawdust off the chain and the guard. Check the chain tension: it should sit snugly on the bar without sagging. Lubricate the chain with chain oil as the manual describes and swap it for the spare when it no longer cuts cleanly. Store the batteries somewhere dry and cool.

Frequently asked questions

How thick a branch can a cordless mini chainsaw cut?

It depends mainly on the length of the guide bar and on how hard the wood is. The maximum recommended diameter for this model is in the specifications table. With hard or green wood it is best to go slowly and not force it; trunks or thick branches need a larger chainsaw.

Can it be used to fell trees?

No. It is a pruning chainsaw for branches, shrubs and small firewood. Felling a tree calls for a suitable chainsaw, training and a planned direction of fall, and it is not a job for this tool. Do not use it to cut above shoulder height or while standing on a ladder either.

How long does the pruning chainsaw battery last?

The approximate runtime and charging time are given in the specifications table. In practice it varies with the thickness and hardness of the wood, the tension and sharpness of the chain and the temperature. As more than one battery is included, you can charge one while you work with the other.

What protective equipment do I need for a small chainsaw?

Small as it is, the chain cuts just the same. Wear work gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, sturdy footwear and close-fitting long sleeves, with no scarves or loose clothing. Tie long hair back. Read the manual before you start and keep children and pets at a distance while you work.

Does the chain need oil?

Yes. A well-lubricated chain cuts better, runs cooler and lasts longer. On this model lubrication is manual: apply chain oil to the chain and the guide bar before each session and now and then during long jobs, always with the battery removed. The manual explains how.

How do you tension or change the chain?

With the battery out and gloves on, loosen the side cover with the key provided, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain sits snugly on the bar but still turns by hand, and tighten it again. To change it, follow the same steps and respect the direction of the teeth shown in the manual.
