Read the full description

Kivelia is a rechargeable neck fan: a U-shaped band that rests on your shoulders, around the back of your neck, like headphones worn down. Inside its two arms are small fans that push air out through slots, towards your neck and face. It is made for anyone who feels the heat and needs their hands for something else: walking, taking the metro, cooking or doing sport.

Hands-free fan: it rests on your shoulders

There is nothing to hold and no need to find it a place on a table. You put it around your neck, switch it on and carry on with what you were doing: pushing a pushchair, carrying the shopping, stirring a pan or typing at the computer. The air goes wherever you go because the fan goes with you.

It is white, with translucent parts, and discreet enough to wear in the street, on public transport, on a terrace or at the beach.

A neck fan with no exposed blades

The fans are hidden inside the arms. Air goes in through intake grilles and comes out of a row of slots spread along each arm, facing upwards. That way the airflow reaches your neck, chin and face instead of coming out at a single point.

It helps to know what it does and what it does not: it moves air over your skin, which is welcome when the heat builds up, but it does not lower the temperature of the air. It is a fan, and it feels like one.

One button for the speeds and a battery that charges by USB

A single button switches it on and, with each press, moves to the next speed until it switches off. You can leave it on a gentle breeze to read or work and turn it up when you are walking in the sun or cooking with the oven on.

The battery is built in and recharges with the USB cable in the box, plugged into a phone charger, a computer or a power bank. How long it lasts depends on the speed: it runs longest on the lowest setting and drains sooner on the highest.

How to use the portable neck fan

  1. Charge it fully

Before you start using it, connect it with its USB cable and wait until the indicator shows a full charge.

  2. Tie back your hair

If you have long hair, tie it back or put it up so that it stays away from the air intake grilles.

  3. Place it around your neck

Pass it behind your neck and let it rest on your shoulders, with the slots facing upwards.

  4. Switch on and choose a speed

Press the button to switch it on and press again until you find the speed that feels comfortable.

Care and maintenance

Clean it switched off and unplugged, with a dry or barely damp cloth, and brush the dust off the grilles and slots with a small soft brush. Do not get it wet or hold it under the tap, and dry it if sweat or a splash has landed on it. Store it somewhere dry, away from direct sun and never inside a car parked in the sun. If you are not going to use it for a season, leave it with some charge and top it up from time to time to look after the battery.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the battery of a neck fan last?

It depends on the speed. On the lowest setting the battery lasts many hours and on the highest it runs down a good deal sooner, as with any battery fan. The figure for this model is in the specifications table. If you are going to be out all day, take the cable and a power bank to recharge it.

Does a neck fan cool the air?

No. It is a fan: it moves the air around you and directs it towards your neck and face. That airflow over your skin is welcome when it is hot, but the air comes out at the same temperature as it goes in. It has no gas, water or cold plates, and it does not change the temperature of a room.

Can the USB neck fan be used while it is charging?

It depends on what the manufacturer says in the manual, so check before you do. If it is not allowed, charge it separately and use it afterwards. In any case, it is more comfortable to charge it when you are not wearing it: the cable pulls on the fan and limits your movement, the opposite of what a hands-free fan is for.

Can I use a bladeless neck fan with long hair?

Yes, with your hair tied back. The blades are not exposed, but the fan draws air in through grilles and loose hair can get close to them. Wear a ponytail or a bun while you use it. Do not cover the air intakes with scarves, hoods or necklaces either, because the fan needs to draw in air to work properly.

Is a portable neck fan suitable for sport or the beach?

It works well for walking, strolling, pedalling on an exercise bike or sitting on a terrace or under a parasol, because it rests on your shoulders. When running or doing exercises with jumps it may shift. It is not water-resistant: do not go into the sea or the pool with it, and wipe off sand and sweat with a dry cloth.

Does it fit any neck size?

The band is a U shape that is open at the front, so it does not close around your neck: it rests on your shoulders. The neck size it is designed for is given in the specifications table. If you have a wide neck or want it for a teenager, compare that measurement with your own before ordering.
